YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
And, you better believe it.
Let us start with some facts, glaring, formidable and telling.
- Two thirds of all diseases are diet related.
- In the United States the commonest cause of death is; guess what? If you said diet, you guessed it right. It surpasses smoking and alcohol as a cause of death.
- Meat-centered diet is harmful to your health and compromises your Longevity; more, much more heart attacks, cancers (especially breast, prostate and colon cancers), strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, obesity and more.
Most common cause of death in U.S.: heart attacks. Risk of death from heart attack by average American man: 50%. Risk of heart attack by average American pure vegetarian man: 4%.
Increased risk of breast cancer for women who eat meat daily compared to pure vegetarian women: 5 times higher.
Increased risk of prostate cancer for men who consume meat and dairy products compared to pure vegetarian men: 3.6 times higher.
Increased risk of colon cancer for people who eat meat and dairy products as compared to pure vegetarians: 10 times higher.
- THE BEST DIET for human beings in terms of health, well-being, longevity and decreased morbidity is a VEGAN VEGETARIAN DIET. This means no meat of any sort (friends please, chicken and fish are meat, many seem to have forgotten this). No dairy or dairy products and no eggs. It can be delicious, besides being nourishing, sustaining and flourishing. It is a complete diet. Here are some great ingredients: beans which come in several different kinds, lentils, soybean (tofu); peas and other legumes, corn, potatoes, rice, all sorts of vegetables; green and not green, and, fruits for desert.
- The main source for pesticides in our diet is meat and dairy products.
- Source of most organic pollution are animals we raise for food; livestock.
- More than half the water consumed in the U.S. is for livestock production.
- Diseases of civilizations, the ones I mentioned in item three are the proof of failure of our systems to properly handle a meat-centered diet. The wheel of biological adaptation turns slowly, very slowly. We are running ahead of the wheel, way ahead. We diverged from
the chimpanzee nearly seven million years ago; still, surprisingly, our genes are theirs differs by a mere 1.5 percent. At this time, our metabolic pathways have not yet learned how to cope with much of the stuff we eat and drink. Their failure is manifested as “disease of civilization”.
CHANGE. YOUR DIET CAN MAKE YOU OR BREAK YOU.
